We thought this news was quite timely after recently writing a blog post on the potential uses of NFTs on Social Media. This week Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that NFTs will be coming to Instagram “in the near term” and we’re really excited to see how this will be executed.
“I’m not ready to announce exactly what that’s going to be today, but, over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, and hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment.” – Mark Zuckerberg
He’s not giving much away there, but it’s still really exciting news as Meta is actively trying to position itself as leading the way into a newer version of the internet; Web 3.0 or The Metaverse as many are calling it.
“I would hope that the clothing that your avatar is wearing in the Metaverse can be minted as an NFT and you can take it between different places,” – Mark Zuckerberg
If we see the use of NFTs on Instagram before the end of 2022, then we’ll be seriously impressed at how quickly Meta have moved with this. We thought it would be a little while longer before NFTs would be used on mainstream social media.
